Liberal Arts
Departments
Overview
NIT, Numazu College has five industrial departments. While the students attend the college to be engineers with highly specialized knowledge, they also need to have broad knowledge as cultured members of society.
To achieve this goal, we have put together the Division of Liberal Arts, a team of excellent teachers, all experts in their fields, offering courses in liberal arts: the humanities as well as the basics of social and natural sciences (similar to what is taught in mainstream high schools and universities).
We have the following important objectives:
- To provide the students with a solid foundation upon which to build their understanding of their major
- To educate the students to become well rounded and cultivated individuals, with broad knowledge and the social skills essential in the business world
We also give consideration to the development of “a sound mind in a sound body” with health and physical education, and the cultivation of artistic sentiments through music and fine art courses, so that the overall curriculum does not overemphasize technical expertise.
The courses in liberal arts account for almost half of the total class hours in the five year program of the college.
