Advanced Course

Department

Overview

In 1962, a 5-year college of technology now called the National Institute of Technology, Numazu College (hereafter called NIT), which requires graduation from junior high school for admission, was founded for the purpose of developing practical engineers. Since then, NIT has been well received in the industrial world for over 50 years. With the spread of information technology, an ever-increasing degree of knowledge and technical standard have been demanded of engineers. In order to respond to such demands, NIT launched three 2-year advanced courses in 1996: Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, and Chemistry & Biochemistry.

In 2014, NIT reorganized these 3 courses into one, which is called the Multidisciplinary Engineering Course. It consists of 3 courses: Environmental & Energy System Engineering Course, Advanced Materials Science & Engineering Course, and Industrial Engineering Course for Medical & Welfare Instrument. The new major courses aim to keep up with the fast changing structure of industry in recent years and provide an education to develop practical and creative engineers in integrated or combined fields. Those who complete the entire program of the Advanced Engineering Courses and satisfy the requirements defined by the National Institute for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation are granted a bachelor’s degree, and are qualified to go on to post-graduate school for further research.

Features

Emphasis on creative practice as an engineer

Unified research guidance since the technical college undergraduate, engineering design education and creative education (PBL education) that put foundations on the real problem, development of the multidisciplinary vision and leadership by the collaboration of the different fields.

Close cooperation with the industry

Long-term internship to receive instruction directly from company engineers and university researchers in companies and universities for four months of the latter period of the first grade , and joint research with local companies.

International achievement of university education level

Exception authorization by NIAD-UE (National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation), and the program certificated by JABEE (Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education).

Educational goal of the Multidisciplinary Engineering Course

  • Ability to recognize their responsibilities in society, look into the global and regional environment and approach a problem from various angles.
  • Ability to apply the knowledge of math, natural science and information technology to fulfill the demands in society.
  • Ability to make an analysis from the viewpoint of engineering and creatively put together the findings.
  • Communication skill and the ability to share information and work in the global arena.
  • Familiarity with how to do the job in an actual work environment, ability to perform a duty under constraints, and an attitude toward voluntary and continuous improvement of their own skills in a scheduled manner.

Educational goal of the individual courses in the Multidisciplinary Engineering Course

Environmental & Energy System Engineering Course

Aiming to develop engineers with enough skills and abilities to achieve the goal of the Multidisciplinary Engineering Program, this course provides the students with an in-depth understanding of energy conversion engineering and applied energy engineering, which integrate various engineering fields such as mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, applied material engineering, and information engineering.

Advanced Materials Science & Engineering Course

Aiming to develop engineers with enough skills and abilities to achieve the goal of the Multidisciplinary Engineering Program, this course provides the students with an in-depth understanding of steel, non-ferrous, ceramic materials and biomaterials, which are the base materials of mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, and applied material engineering.

Industrial Engineering Course for Medical & Welfare Instrument

Aiming to develop engineers with enough skills and abilities to achieve the goal of the Multidisciplinary Engineering Program, this course provides the students with an in-depth understanding of medical and welfare apparatus engineering, in which both engineering fields (e.g. mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, and information engineering) and bioengineering fields (e.g. anatomy and physiology, and biomedical engineering) are integrated and combined.
